The dynamics of alkaline phosphatase activity during operculum regeneration in the polychaete Pomatoceros lamarckii.

Alkaline phosphatase enzymes are found throughout the living world and fulfil a variety of functions. They have been linked to regeneration, stem cells and biomineralisation in a range of animals. Here we describe the pattern of alkaline phosphatase activity in a spiralian appendage, the operculum of the serpulid polychaete Pomatoceros lamarckii. The P. lamarckii operculum is reinforced by a ca...

the effect of e-64 on the developmental competence of sheep cocs during in vitro maturation

in the present study, the effect of e-64 at different concentrations (0.5, 1, 5 and 10 µm) added to (1) the ivm medium on oocyte nuclear maturation and developmental competence of ovine oocytes, and (2) to the ivc medium on embryonic development of ovine embryos were investigated.

Fluctuations of adenylate cyclase activity during anterior regeneration in Owenia fusiformis (Polychaete Annelid).

Biochemical assays of adenylate cyclase activity were performed during the early phases of regeneration in Owenia fusiformis (Polychaete Annelid). The results indicate the existence of a strong stimulation in an early phase following trauma. This stimulation is then followed by periodic fluctuations exhibiting a diurnal rhythm correlated with the cell cycle. Adenylate cyclase activity is also s...

The operculum syndrome.

A 48-year-old man presented with signs of pseudobulbar palsy. On computed tomography (CT) he was found to have extensive tissue loss in the region of the sylvian fissure and insula bilaterally. This appearance on CT represents the radiological correlate to anatomic descriptions of the operculum syndrome, and is useful in distinguishing the condition from pseudobulbar palsy.
